Section 2: Do
Teachers were given three options to choose from in order to practice using the talk moves. Each of these options is listed below with links to materials used in preparing for the differentiated staff development. All of this work began with all staff members reflecting upon and completing the Staff Development Module Planning Sheet, linked below.
OPTION 1: Co-teach a lesson with the Instructional Coach.
Teachers selecting this option selected a date during which the Instructional Coach would co-teach a lesson with the teacher. The teacher's role during the lesson was to provide instruction that allowed for the opportunity of a deeper conversation to occur where the talk moves could be embedded. The Instructional Coach's role her's role during the lesson was to deliver instruction and make use of the talk moves during conversation about the learning. during this co-teaching experience was to embed talk moves into the conversation when needed. Afterwards, the teacher and Instructional Coach would engage in a follow-up conversation about the co-taught lesson and the use of the talk moves.

OPTION 2: Create your own idea to help yourself grow.
Teachers were given the option of creating their own "DO" activity to practice making use of the talk moves. Teacher's selecting this option were asked to meet with the Instructional Coach to discuss their idea. Notes, including the responsibilities of the teacher and Instructional Coach were developed during the discussion. At a pre-determined time, the teacher and Instructional Coach would have a follow-up conversation to see how the teacher-created idea went.

OPTION 3: Observe someone else use the talk moves in a lesson.
Teachers Teachers selecting this option were asked what talk move(s) they wanted to observe. The Instructional Coach determined which staff member would be a good person to observe and set up a date/time for the peer observation. The Instructional Coach provided coverage so that the observation could occur. During the observation, the teacher had an observation form to complete. After the observation, the teacher and Instructional Coach had a follow-up conversation about what was observed and how it would impact their own instruction.
