Jennie Reaves, Assistant Principal
I currently serve at the assistant principal at Wilson Elementary School in Fishersville, VA. This has been a rewarding and insightful experience as I have supported school safety initiatives, the comprehensive needs assessment process and the creation of our school improvement plan, provided feedback to teachers through our formal observation process, created schedules, and address transportation needs of our students in addition to handling day to day student discipline and acting as the school site testing coordinator. Each of these endeavors have been instrumental to the operation of our school and I am fortunate to work with amazing educators at Wilson Elementary School.
I served as the Elementary Intervention Specialist/Process Manager at Wenonah Elementary School from August 2015 to June 2016.
I served as the Instructional Coach at Wenonah Elementary School from August 2012 until June 2015. During this time period, I
Prior to becoming an Instructional Coach at Wenonah Elementary School, I was the Instructional Coach at William Perry Elementary School for six years and taught fourth grade at Westwood Hills Elementary School for five years. I have co-presented with Crystal Hanger, Stuarts Draft Elementary School's Intervention Specialist, and Angela Eutsler, Instructional Specialist with Augusta County Public Schools, at a variety of conferences around the state of Virginia including Virginia Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development's (VASCD) Annual Conference (2011), Virginia State Reading Association's (VSRA) Annual Conferences (2010, 2011), and the Shenandoah Valley Reading Council's (SVRC) Annual Conference (2013). From 2012-2015, I acted as a team leader for the elementary mathematics teachers involved in the Virginia School University Partnership (VSUP) Test Item Bank. This experience allowed me to work with teachers from across Virginia to create rigorous mathematics test items for use by all school divisions that are members of VSUP. The test items created are available for school division use and provide a much needed resource to classroom teachers and testing coordinators. Prior to acting as a team leader, I was a participant with this endeavor for one year. In addition to acting as a team leader for the VSUP Test Item Bank, I have completed consulting work at Waterman Elementary School in Harrisonburg, VA during the 2012-2013 school year. I co-planned five in-service sessions with Anne Loso, Harrisonburg City School’s Mathematics Coordinator, and Tanya Butler the Instructional Coach at Waterman Elementary School. I created and facilitated chapter review activities centered on the book Classroom Discussions: Using Math Talk to Help Students Learn, Grades 1-6. I provided vocabulary review activities for the ESL teachers and reading specialists to assist with teaching students content vocabulary. I also provided opportunities for reflection and the gathering of feedback, which was used to plan for future staff development in the area of mathematics. Early in my career, I always found a need for instructional materials that were not available in my classroom or through my school. Grant writing became an avenue for procuring funds for a variety of projects for my students and grade level teams. Over a six year period, I co-authored twelve grants totaling over $9,800. These grants provided funds for several leveled libraries, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and fluency materials. These materials are still in use at the three schools I have worked in.
